Water Shut off, 7/7/2026

 Attention Shareholders,

A section of water has been shut off due to a leak. The water has been shut off between 200 West and 320 West, from approximately 400 South to 600 North. If you live in this rea and you don't have water, it is due to the water being shut off. The water should be back on tomorrow.

The current level of the reservoir is 40.2 feet. On June 29, we were at 41.9 feet. Your efforts to be water wise and conserving water is appreciated.

Just a reminder about restrictions- there is NO WEEKEND WATERING for all shareholders, even if you have a meter. The limit for those on a meter is 44,000 gallons per share for the entire season, not monthly. You can water when it is convenient and not on the restriction schedule if you have a meter. If you do not have a meter, you are to follow the restriction schedule below to water on the day and time of your location.

** For those shareholders on a meter, make sure to monitor your usage. It is your responsibility. The meters are read in the office a couple of times per month. Your meter will be locked and you will have to lease or purchase a share to continue to use the water.

UPDATE

 6/23/2026- 3:00pm

The water was turned back on for all shareholders. There was another leak that came up along 50 West. So, the water is off for those along 50 West. They should be able to get it repaired soon and the water back on tomorrow morning.

Water shutoff due to leak

 Today is Monday, June 22, 2026

Due to a leak,the water has been shut off for areas along 100 west and Main Street. If you live on the west side of Main Street or the East side of 100 West, or between those streets, and you do not have water. It is due to the leak and the water is shut off. I will update when I get an update.

Watering Restrictions-beginning May 18, 2026

Shareholders,

As of Monday, May 18, 2026 we will be moving to the next step of watering restrictions. You can find that schedule below. The level of the reservoir has dropped over 3 feet in a little over a week. The current level is 46.5 feet.

Weekend watering restrictions will remain in place for all shareholders and you are asked to please use the water resourcefully and wisely.  For shareholders with a meter, the days and times on this schedule do not need to be followed due to the gallon allotment of water per share you are following. Shareholders with a meter can water when it is convenient but must stay within the gallon allotment per share. This year the allotment is 44,000 gallons per share. Each shareholder is responsible to monitor their own usage (with your eyeonwater account). If you go over the allotment, your meter will be locked and you will lose all watering privileges until you show purchase or lease of another share. The fee to unlock the meter will be $100.

Spring Water Turn on Date

The water will be turned on Saturday, April 18 in the morning.  Please make sure your sprinklers are shut off and connections are closed. Farmers, please make sure your risers are shut off. 

As you all are aware, this year has been below average in snowfall in our area. We are in an D3(Extreme) drought. Currently as of 4/7/2026, the level of the reservoir is 48.9 feet. The reservoir is full at 60.5 feet. The pumps are on to get as much water to the reservoir as possible. This year will require all shareholders’ efforts to be waterwise and resourceful. The recommended watering times are between 6pm and 10am. Lawns only need 1 to 1.5 inches of water weekly to reach deep roots.  Here is a link to help guide you in your weekly watering.

The system will pressurize more efficiently if all valves are turned off. We will begin the season with a no weekend watering restriction. This is for all shareholders, even those with a meter. This restriction will begin on Friday, April 24 at 8pm. This will allow shareholders to test their system throughout the week and get leaks fixed if needed.  No weekend watering will be allowed between Friday 8pm through Monday,7am. If you notice a leak in your area please call David Lee at (435) 841-9522 or the office at (435) 833-9606.

The allotment for those with meters is 44,000 gallons per share.  The Reservoir level will be monitored and if the amount can be increased later in the season, shareholders will be told that information. Please be very conscientious of how you use your water. You are ultimately responsible for keeping track of your meter readings. Exceeding your allotment will result in locked service and assessed significant penalties. Please use your “eyeonwater” account to monitor your usage. 8/25/25 Update

 8/25/25-- We received 0.16 inches of rain last night. The current level of the reservoir is 35 feet. The reservoir rose 6 inches over the weekend. Your efforts to conserve water and follow the no weekend watering restrictions are beneficial to all and help extend the Irrigation season.

Due to the rapidly dropping level of the reservoir, the weekend Watering Restrictions Begin Friday, August 8, 2025.

ALL Shareholders are not allowed to water from Friday 8pm until Monday 7am. That includes those shareholders with a meter.

 

The current level of the reservoir is 39.9 feet as of 8/4/2025. Last week the level was at 42.3feet, so it dropped 2.4 feet in one week. Thank you for being water wise and mindful of your usage.

Water Usage 7/28/2025

 

To All Shareholders,

 We are writing to inform you of a concerning drop in the water level at our reservoir. Over the past seven days, the reservoir has decreased by approximately 4 feet. This rate of depletion is unsustainable and could lead to mandatory watering restrictions if not addressed promptly.

 

To help avoid such restrictions, we are asking all shareholders to be water wise and use our irrigation resources as efficiently and sparingly as possible. This includes:

 

•              Watering only when necessary

 

•              Avoiding daytime watering to reduce evaporation

 

•              Checking for and fixing leaks in irrigation systems

 

•              Turning off water during rain or cooler weather

 

Currently, the reservoir level as of 7/28/2025, is 42.3 feet. In 2024 at this time, the level was 49 feet. In 2023 it was at 52 feet and in 2022 the level was at 28 feet. If we continue to drop, the first restriction would be no weekend watering for all shareholders, even those with a meter on their connection.

 

Our goal is to slow the current rate of use so that we can continue to provide adequate water for all shareholders throughout the remainder of the irrigation season. If we can all work together and be mindful of our water usage, we can help preserve this vital resource and avoid further restrictions.

**UPDATE** 7/3/2025 Water lines shut off for those North and West of 200 South and Coleman

 ***7/3/2025 (4pm) UPDATE The water has been turned on for most connections. There is a small section between Utah  Ave and Vine Street along Coleman that does not have the water turned back on. The rest of the connections have their water back on. ***

The water has been shut off due to 2 breaks in the line of the irrigation system.

The water is off for those North and West of 200 South and Coleman. The leaks are being repaired right now.

7/2/2025 ** update there are multiple breaks that happened at the same time. They are trying to repair the broken lines, but it will take several days. They are hoping the water is on by the end of the week. Weston is working on it.***

Dear Shareholders,

We want to let you know that Settlement Canyon Reservoir is now closed to the public. This wasn't an easy decision, but it's one we feel necessary to keep everyone safe.

Unfortunately, despite our efforts to monitor the area and educate the public, we have been unable to keep people away from the dangerous areas of the ice. This creates serious risks, and closing the reservoir is the only way we can truly prevent another tragedy from happening.

Your safety means everything to us, and we appreciate your understanding as we take this step to protect our community. We know this may cause some inconvenience, and we are truly sorry for that, but we hope you'll support us as we put safety first.

Irrigation Update

 

Shareholders,

 

Here is an update on Settlement Canyon Irrigation Company and the Reservoir.

 

The reservoir is still going over the spillway. There continues to be a steady flow going down the canyon in the creek from the grate by the yellow gate.

 

 

 

 

• We are currently not under any water restrictions. We ask you to be water wise and use resourcefully to help manage the water we have been given. The allotment for meters has not been determined for this season. The Board will monitor the levels and make decisions about the allotment for meters when the runoff has slowed down more.  Those shareholders with meters will be informed with that information when the decision is made.
• The water flowing over the spillway is in the flood pipe and it flows out past 900 West then to the overflow area down off 700 South.
• If you notice a leak in your area or have a water Emergency, please contact David Lee at (435) 841-9522

 

• The Board continues to work with Tooele City and Tooele County to do flood mitigation. The City and County have worked hard to clear out the flood channels to minimize flooding.

 

• We have applied for and been granted an ARPA grant from the State of Utah to help with Meter Installation. We have been working hard to complete the Water Conservation Plan and have turned that in to the State. We are waiting for further information and what is needed to continue moving forward.

 

• The Irrigation Company continues with the installation of water meters. The Utah State Government has issued a bill requiring all secondary watering systems to be metered by 2030. Our contracted plumber, LeGrand Jensen Construction/Weston Jensen is working to install these meters. The installation began in 2020 at 500 South and 50 West and continued North on 50 West. We have approximately 155 meters installed.
• At the Annual Shareholder Meeting in 2020, a motion was made to charge each shareholder $1700 per connection for those meters already installed and to move forward with the installation of more meters. The average cost will need to be reflective of the increase in parts, supplies and labor. You will be notified when the meter is to be installed on your connection. An invoice will be sent when the meter is installed and payment will be due. Payment arrangements can be made by contacting the office.

PRESIDENT’s MESSAGE

·         The current level of the reservoir is 31.9 Feet. The reservoir spills at 60.5 feet so there is approximately 28.6 feet to fill.  Currently various springs are filling up the reservoir, and it continues to rise as the weather gets warmer.

·         The Board is working with Tooele County Emergency Management, Tooele City and the State for Flood Mitigation to help prepare for possible flooding.

·         A farmers committee has been formed to look into options of how best to meter the farmers. They met with Grantsville Irrigation and are trying to make changes to benefit farmers and residential shareholders, to make it fair for everyone. The Board has met with the Committee and more information will be coming.

·          The Board is currently working with the State Department of Drinking Water to get various requirements in place for the Green Tunnel Spring, so, if possible, we can sell excess water to Tooele City.

·         The Board is working with the Division of Water Resources regarding the APRA Grant Funding that was applied for to help pay for the Meters. The Board has been busy getting the Water Conservation Plan prepared to move forward with the Grant Process.

·         Jeff Wyatt was elected to a 3 year term as a member of the Board of Directors in the Annual Shareholder Meeting held March 7, 2023.

·         The Board asks that even though we have received a great amount of snow, please be water-wise in your usage. Making the most of this snowpack (water.utah.gov/snowpack)

This year’s record-setting snowpack is providing some much-needed relief for Utah’s water supply. But since we don’t know when another wet year like this will come along, and most of the state remains in drought, we need to unite and focus on reducing water use so we have enough in the future. By continuing to conserve — and finding new ways to stretch the supply — we’ll become more drought resilient as a state.

In Utah, we get approximately 95% of our water from snowpack. Reservoir storage is dependent upon snowpack and runoff to get us through dry years. Extended drought has depleted our reservoirs, and it will take multiple years of above-average snowpack and precipitation to reverse drought impacts.

Monitoring snowpack helps our water managers and partners make management decisions to increase our resiliency.

WATER METERS

The Irrigation Company continues with the installation of water meters. The Utah State Government has issued a bill requiring all secondary watering systems to be metered by 2030. Our contracted plumber, LeGrand Jensen Construction/Weston Jensen is working to install these meters. The installation began in 2020 at 500 South and 50 West and continued North on 50 West. We currently have 154 meters installed in the system. At the Annual Shareholder Meeting in 2020, a motion was made to charge each shareholder $1700 per connection for those meters already installed and to move forward with the installation of more meters. Shareholders can be on a payment plan by contacting the office, with the minimum of $50 per month to pay for their meter.  The average cost will need to be reflective of the increase in parts, supplies and labor. Currently, the Company has entered into a contract with the State of Utah for an ARPA Grant to help pay for 300 secondary meters. The Board is working to fulfill the requirements of the agreement. The Company pays for the meters and installation, then those shareholders who have had a meter installed help to “reimburse” the Irrigation Company and to build up the matching amount for the next time the Company applies for the grant. Shareholders will be informed when their meter has been installed, or when they are in the area and will be installing meters. The Irrigation Company must have meters on all connections by the year 2030.  Each meter is read by a cellular signal. When the meter is installed and activated, shareholders will be given an account number to create their personal account on eyeonwater.com to monitor their usage. At the beginning of the watering season, shareholders are told their alottment for the upcoming season. The allottment is in gallons per share.
